sonu nigam, kolkata concert

On February 10, Sonu Nigam took to the stage in Kolkata for a captivating concert. However, the performance took a turn when some audience members stood up during the show, prompting the singer to step in for crowd management. He humorously remarked that if they wished to stand, they might as well do so at an election.

Sonu Nigam got angry during his Kolkata concert

A video from the venue went viral in which Sonu Nigam can be seen shouting at the crowd. He can be heard saying repeatedly asking the crowd to sit. At one point, a visibly annoyed Sonu Nigam can be heard saying, “Agar aapko khade hona hai toh election mein khade ho jaao yaar (If you want to stand, stand in election).”

“Agar aapko khade hona hai toh election mein khade ho jaao yaar. Please bithao peechhe. Jaldi karo. Mera utna time jaa raha hai mera, maalum hai? Mere gaane cut karne padenge mujhe. Apka cut-off time aa jayega phir, baithao! Jaldi baitho! Baitho! Bahar niklo! Make this space empty. (If you want to stand, then go stand in the election. Please sit. Do it quickly. My time is getting wasted, do you know that? I’ll have to cut my songs. Your cut-off time will come then, so sit down! Sit down quickly! Sit down! Get out! Make this space empty),” Sonu Nigam blasted at the crowd.

Fans reactions to Sonu’s comments

Fans quickly rallied behind Sonu in the comments, criticizing the event’s management. One user stated, “It was so disappointing that due to the organizers’ poor management, Sonu had to intervene. Such a shame.” Another comment read, “He had to take charge of the crowd and security himself due to the lack of organization. I’ve seen many reports about this.”

One user highlighted the importance of safety, noting, “He had to step in himself because he knows what happened to KK due to similar management and security issues. It’s becoming necessary for performers everywhere to ensure their own safety while on stage.” This reference is to the untimely death of singer KK in June 2022 after he fell ill during a performance at Nazrul Mancha.

Adding to the intensity of the night, Sonu had recently experienced a severe back spasm while performing live. He described the pain as excruciating, likening it to a needle being pressed into his spine. “It felt as if a needle was stuck in my spine. Any movement brought that discomfort even closer,” he shared in an Instagram clip.
